Photography for the Woodworker

The Photography for the Woodworker workshop was held at Campbell Studios
Kent & Kathy not only took part in the presentations but also allowed us to use their facility
Mike DesJardin, long time wedding photographer and instructor at the Kodak photo club, taught portions ...
of the class as did Doug Crockett, a technical expert in the Kodak Marketing Group

Kent Campbell, a professional photographer with 40+ years experience, was the third instructor
Mike started the day with a review of the basics of photography
The same fundamental principles cover both film and digital photography
We had to cap the attendance at the workshop at 20 due to the size of the studio

Mike finished up covering the basics and fielded questions
We then introduced our photo subject for the next section
Kent covered techniques to insure your lighting is appropriate
The proper filters over the light sources and/or your lens will insure proper color balance

There is a huge assortment of filters available to balance and color lighting
Locally, a good source is Applied Audio
With color temperature issues resolved, Kent moves next to a seamless background
The whole days emphasis was how to take the best photos with "what you have"

Kent show how a simple reflector with a stove pipe turns into a spot light
Insulation board, painted white on one side and black on the other, can bounce light or skrim light
Kent shows some simple, low cost, methods for softening light sources
A sand bag and cable release make for steady shots or the sand bag can provide a steady rest
