About this event
Block printing is a relief printing method where you carve a design into a material, we will be using ink (not dye) on the raised parts, and press it onto paper. Common carving materials include wood, linoleum, and soft rubber. We will be using linoleum. You can bring carving tools, but special purpose carving tools will be provided which you will keep. These forms can then be printed onto paper, fabric, or wood. This will be a simple hands-on workshop. You will carve a simple design and then make prints from it.
Our instructor sees herself as a printmaker and designing and carving the block is just the start. She has a small print shop in her Rochester, home. She makes original linocut and woodblock prints. Each print is carefully printed individually. All of her prints are limited edition hand carved, and hand printed original images. She hand colors many of her prints, individually after they are printed, with watercolors.
The registration fee includes virtually all materials and tools needed, including a specialized carving knife which is yours to keep.
Note: You may bring a child over 12 to work with you at your workstation, but multiple adults need to register individually.
